New Year's Resolutions

source: lism.

(I’m writing this from the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Hotel as we get ready for BlissDom ‘10!)

Although we just finished the 31 Days of Organizing for a Better 2010 series, I am planning to dedicate the first Question of the Day each month to see how you’re doing with your goals and resolutions, and I didn’t want to wait for March for the first one!

What goals and resolutions have you made for 2010?

Are there any you made just for the sake of making a resolution and not because you really want to pursue them right now?

Have you set measurable, concrete goals rather than just broad, vague resolutions?

Is perfection holding you back from working toward your goal?

Let’s make 2010’s goals more than resolutions. Let’s make them a reality!

Hi. My name is Mandi and I’m an organizing junkie. I’m also a wife, and Momma to four little girls (5, 3.5, 2 and a new baby!). I've worked at home since our oldest was a baby, and like a lot of other moms, my life is a constant balancing act of caring for my family and my home, meeting my obligations and finding time for hobbies in there somewhere. Oh, yeah, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m somewhat of a kitchen dunce and I only like to pretend that I’m crafty. Read more here!

  1. My first goal in 2010 is to be completely debt free. Using Dave Ramsey’s “My Total Money Makeover”, I should reach this goal by May. Yay!

Otherwise, I am focusing hard on getting organized so that organization is a routine that fits into my daily schedule. I am tired of letting things pile up and having to take quarterly breaks to finally deal with the mess I’ve created! To accomplish this, I obviously have a lot of smaller goals (i.e. tackle one room or area at a time) that will ultimately help me accomplish this overall goal.

I am a single working woman. Sometimes I think it is harder for us because we are left to do it all on our own. It’s hard to be away from home all day, come home & prepare a nourishing meal, keep up with cleaning & laundry, not to mention give ourselves a little time to relax! So, I hope 2010 affords me the opportunity to balance my lifestyle better.

Have fun at BlissDom! I look forward to hearing more about it!

  4. Usually, I shy away from making new year’s resolutions. I tend to make goals as I go through the year, but this January Chele at The Bona Fide Life challenged me to make goals each month as post my progress each Monday. I have to tell you, having that accountability has made the burn to accomplish my goals that much greater. So far, I have established an exercise routine, I have set a new earlier bedtime and I am working on a new blog layout.

  5. My biggest goals this year have been relational – relationship with God, husband and children. I have had good days and bad days so far. I’m working on having a consistent quiet time daily and praying more for my children. My husband and I are having a date night at least weekly (at home) and I’m trying to do something fun with my toddler everyday, rather than being so task-focused. So far, so good.

  6. Only 3 this year:

    1) Contact one in-law by phone once a month.

    2) Redecorate the master bedroom.

    3) Forgive others.

  7. Organizing the house, sticking to a budget, those things are staying on track. I’ve been more eco-friendly and doing more to make things from scratch.

I cannot, however, seem to motivate myself to workout. I am eating better and sleeping more though, so hopefully this month I can get myself into shape.

  8. I’m doing monthly resolutions instead of yearly. So far, I’m up to date on my one year Bible reading (January) and I’ve worked out every day (February). This one’s a little harder, I have to admit. I can feel myself losing motivation.
