Quick Tip: Pack a Nursing Basket

As a side note, I call this my nursing basket, but this post is not meant to exclude bottle-feeding families. I don’t really know whether having a basket like this would be helpful for moms who formula feed because I don’t think it takes nearly as long or requires as many supplies as nursing does — at least for me — in the beginning. I’d love to hear from those of you who bottle feed, though, if this is something that would be useful for you as well!
Nursing a newborn can be quite a time commitment in the beginning as everyone gets adjusted and figures things out. Having a nursing basket stocked with all of the things I need — or might need — makes things a lot less stressful for all of us.
This time, my basket includes:
:: Diapers
:: Wipes
:: Lansinoh
:: Extra nursing pads
:: Nail clippers (for the baby)
:: Nail file (for me)
:: Extra burp cloths/receiving blankets
:: Magazines
:: A full water bottle
:: Tissues
:: A sling
However, you’re not limited to the list above when putting together a basket. Maybe you get the munchies while nursing and want to keep it stocked with a few healthy snacks as well. Or if you watch TV while nursing, it might become a good home for your TV remote for a time. The possibilities are endless, but the key is to put anything that you might need or want to have access to while nursing within arm’s reach!

Great idea! I never thought of this per se. The chair where I always nursed my son had pockets in the side, so I guess those were my “baskets”!
I always had some hand cream and chapstick in there too….must haves for me!

Love it! I have most of those things stashed on my side table next to where I’ve been nursing most often these past 3 weeks…water, nursing pads, burp clothes, snacks, a book and some magazines, plus the remote and a note pad for things I think of while nursing!

I always had my cordless phone within reach too.

I have found doing this with my baby helps too. So many times in the early days I would sit down to feed her only to discover something I needed was out of arm’s reach.

Ok, I’m getting everything ready since we have 6! weeks left and thought of this post. I’ve got magazines and a table already set up and came back to this post to see if there’s anything besides my staples that I was forgetting for the basket!!

You were definitely lucky not to need burp cloths and nursing pads…I’d be soaked if I didn’t have those!
I like to change diapers and clip nails as part of our feeding routine, so it only makes sense to keep all of it in once place. In fact, my nursing basket is now my diaper changing basket and still holds diapers, wipes and nail clippers as well as a few teething toys and a book to hold her attention while I change her.
