Question of the Day: What’s Your Favorite Thing About Christmas?

source: A Charlie Brown Christmas
As I mentioned, I love everything about Christmas — the decorations, the gift giving, the baking, the family get-togethers, all of it. We work really hard to focus on Jesus’ birth as part of our celebrations as well, but honestly, I’d love Christmas even if there wasn’t a “reason for the season.”
Thankfully, I married a man who loves it as much as me, and we started a family tradition the first year we were married to decorate for Christmas on Halloween. I know that’s a little nuts, but we love having our decorations up as we go about our holiday preparations, and we’re already anxious to start decorating this year!
Today, I want to hear from you:
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
What is your least favorite?
What’s your best memory of a Christmas past?
Do you have any special family traditions?
Looking forward to reading your responses!

Growing up, my favorite thing was getting presents. Now that I’m a dad, my favorite thing is giving presents. That and my wife’s Christmas breakfast!

My favourite thing about Christmas is walking around, listening to my favourite christmas songs, getting inspired by all the lights and displays in shops.
I love finding really useful things for the people i love, (I love MAKING them even more so I do more of that these days.)

Family memories and Christmas music.

My favorite thing is the Christmas MUSIC, it has such a way of bringing the Christmas Spirit and that nostalgic feeling into my home. We don’t decorate for Christmas until about Thanksgiving time, but we DO start to listen to the music that day after Halloween!

Our favorite time at Christmas is trimming the tree. We are a family of three. We always picked up an ornament from every place we visited since our child was born. Seventeen years later on trim tree night we play music, have hot drinks, and appetizers. Then we talk about that trip as we hang that ornament on the tree. Brings back beautiful memories.

Do I actually have to pick one? I just love the decorations, sewing, baking, family time, almost all of it! I can’t make up my mind about the shopping part though, it depends on the day, and who I’m shopping for!

We always make homemade cinnamon rolls for Christmas breakfast – that smell makes me so nostalgic! The kids talk about it all year long, looking forward to the special breakfast treat together…

As a kid, my family went to my Grandparents for Christmas. Spending time with my cousins was always looked forward to!

Some Christmas Eve’s we would go out and Christmas Carol, and the people would invite us in for a cookie or hot drink. I am trying to start traditions with my family, but my husband is always so cranky, it is had to include him. So as my daughters get older, they will enjoy (i hope) decorating, looking at Christmas lights, finding that special gift, baking … all the fun stuff

What is your least favorite? Traveling to another state and having to take down the decorations for another year :0(
What’s your best memory of a Christmas past? watching my children open presents after Santa came, taking the kids to the christmas eve play at the church; they all love baby Jesus and the fact that so many people get to celebrate him being born and helping others,
Do you have any special family traditions? We put up lights, decorate the hpuse and trees-all 3 of my kids have a small tree, we bake, listen to christmas starting on halloween
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
looking at other people’s decorations and lights, the smells and food, the gatherings of friends and everyone seems to be in a better mood, getting christmas cards from all over

What is your favorite thing about Christmas? Being with my kids and grandkids, who we live far away from, so we don’t get to see them more than 3 or 4 times a year.
What is your least favorite? Taking down decorations.
What’s your best memory of a Christmas past? One year I had lost the diamond out of my engagement ring. To my surprise, my husband had the stone replaced. Since this is the only piece of valuable jewelry I have or want, this gift was priceless to me!
Do you have any special family traditions? We open our presents one at a time so everyone, especially the parents of all ages, can see what each child receives. It also prolongs a special time for all of us.

Wow I just found this site and thank goodness I have as it’s really made me think about how un-organized I am for christmas.
The things I love about Christmas are; the colours and decorations, the child like joy and awe of this being a magical time, time spent with family and how could I forget the food.

My favorite part of Christmas is definitely the music: The only time of year when I can get away with sing-alongs!
I’m not one to shy away from gifts – giving or receiving – but the mass merchandising of Christmas is certainly my least favorite part.
My favorite Christmas memory occurred just last year. I was expecting my 1st child, a boy (born 2 months later), and my mother finished and gave me a beautiful blue and white afghan my grandmother had started just before she passed in 1985. Both the blanket and the memory are beautiful treasures.
Thank you for the opportunity to share!

As the mom of many children, some are now married and it seems that I don’t get to see the entire family together as often as I’d like. My favorite part of Christmas is knowing that everyone is going to put aside a good chunk of time to spend together as a family.
