Question of the Day: Favorite Parts of Fall

We spent the past two weeks talking about Christmas and the importance of making plans early so that you can enjoy the season without the stress, but it’s also important to find a balance between planning for the future and enjoying the moment!

Fall is by far my favorite season (although I always seem to forget that in the spring, which I love too!), and even though life is busy with a new baby, blogging, working and planning for the holidays, I don’t want to miss out on the best parts of this season — baking with apples and pumpkins, breathing the crisp fall air and taking in the gorgeous fall foliage of West Virginia to start.

Today, I want to know…

What’s your favorite part of fall?

Is it the scents of the season?

An annual activity or event you look forward to every year?

Do you have a favorite recipe or tradition?

Thanks for participating; I’m looking forward to reading your responses!

Hi. My name is Mandi and I’m an organizing junkie. I’m also a wife, and Momma to four little girls (5.5, 4, 2.5 and a baby!). I've worked at home since our oldest was a baby, and like a lot of other moms, my life is a constant balancing act of caring for my family and my home, meeting my obligations and finding time for hobbies in there somewhere. Oh, yeah, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m somewhat of a kitchen dunce and I only like to pretend that I’m crafty. Read more here!

  1. What’s your favorite part of fall? We live near forested mountains, so I love the colors of the mountains in the distance as the leave change. I’ve always wanted a sweater that looks like the mountains in the fall.

Is it the scents of the season? I love the smell of burning leaves and fallen oak leaves. My elementary school was surrounded by oak trees so the smell of oak leaves in the fall takes me back to age 6!

An annual activity or event you look forward to every year? My group of friends does a hayride & bonfire at a local farm. So much fun!

Do you have a favorite recipe or tradition? I love pumpkin bars!

  2. I love the colors of the leaves turning and seeing all the birds flock and fly south. This year I feel cheated on the leaves – our strange weather messed with that. Even the birds seem disorganized.

Our “tradition” is that after the oven sitting idle all during the warm months we have roasts, quiche, meatloaf, cakes, brownies, cookies, pies!

  3. I love Fall! It is my favorite season :) I love the scenery, the smells, the weather, everything!

I love Thanksgiving, and baking, and all of the beautiful Fall decorations. I hate that Thanksgiving gets swallowed by all of the Christmas hype. I feel that Thanksgiving is just that: a time for thanks-giving.

My favorite recipes are my pecan pie and my pumpkin pie. I’m a pie-baking fool this time of year!

And, this is our time for renewal. I know for most people, that time is spring, but we have our vacations in the fall, after all of the busyness of the spring and summer. It is our tradition :)

  4. The scents of fall are so warm and comforting. It doesn’t matter if its freshly baked apple pie, falling leaves or a candle! Our family always looks forward to trips to the apple orchard each fall, also.

  5. We skipped fall this year in Minnesota. Summer was interrupted by winter with snow on the leaves that hadn’t even turned color yet. However, I was able to enjoy the annual ritual of stocking up on notebooks and pens in the back-to-school sales. I usually go to the apple orchard for a gallon of fresh cider and a peck of Honey Crisps. I also try to make a trip Up North to Itasca State Park to photograph the beautiful colors along the Wilderness Trail. My crock pot and bread machine go into extreme mode, filling the house with the fragrance of hardy soup and herbed bread. And, on midnight on Halloween, I sit down with a steaming cup of hot apple cider and a fresh notebook and pen, and begin building my word count for National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo).

  6. I love the colors – both the natural colors outside and the ones we use to identify the season and try to bring into our homes.

I love the natural invitation to be outdoors – again the colors, the weather (when not rainy) and the smells.

I love the feeling of harvest – apples, pumpkins, corn mazes, hay rides, bon fines, wine tasting.

  7. Here in Hawaii we don’t have fall and it’s the one season I miss.

This year I’ve tried to bring some fall into our home with library books on autumn and fall, leaf rubbings with my preschooler in fall colors and a few fall decorations. We also visited the pumpkin patch as a family where we went on a hay ride and picked pumpkins (in our shorts and t-shirts). I ordered a Caramel Apple Spice Cider at Starbucks on our last date night, bought some cinnamon apple tea to drink at home and plan to make an apple crisp next week.

  8. Fall used to be my favorite season until we moved to a place with REALL LOONG winters. Now I try to enjoy it without worrying about what comes next: the snow, hibernation, etc. I love the harvest of fruits and veggies that come from long summer of hard work…for the farmers (since we live in an apt.). I do love fall and this year my goal is to find the good in winter, too.

  9. I love fall too.. Its my favorite season I think. I love the other 3 too but fall feels so cozy & snuggly. I love the crisp air, & beautiful leaves… and here in NE Ohio, there are all sorts of fall festivals all around.. Theres no reason to be bored in this part of the country.
We also have a wonderful fall journey we’ve done a couple times now.. sometimes on the motorcycle, sometimes in the car.. We head out to the country to all the wonderful apple & produce places and little quaint stores in Amish country to get our favorite cheeses, beef sticks, pumpkins, apples, & applecider. YUM! Gotta love that! :D

I just found your blog and I love it! We think along the same lines, but you have some ideas that I’ve never tried! I can’t wait to get more organized!
