How ironic. I'm having a guest over in two days and my son and I live in a one bedroom (tiny) basement apartment. We share a bedroom and so I've informed my guest, whose stayed with us before, that she'll have to share our bedroom with us, as I do not have room for an air mattress this time around. I figure if someone needs a place to stay and wants to save $, they need to understand the situation and take what they can get. I'm not stressing about it, cause its the best I can do. I think I will make a little welcome / toiletry basket though...as I can't do much else.

Great post. We live in a small home and often give the guests our room since our children are early birds. It is fun to make up our room for guests. Sometimes I even leave a small gift on the pillow to add and extra special touch.

One other tip I would offer it to make sure guests have a safe place to put their medicines.

We have close calls with my daughter and our guest's pills on two separate occasions. Clearing off a high shelf and letting your guest know what it's for will really help keep little children safe.

Thanks for mentioning the bit about introverts. I always dread being a guest at someone's house because I feel like I have to be perpetually "on," which is exhausting over consecutive days. I like being social but need some time to myself to recharge, and that's hard to ask for without feeling either rude or demanding. Glad you get it and are raising awareness about this issue. Thanks again! :)

One of the challenges we have faced is a place for everyone's wet towel. I have no problem doing laundry every day so everyone has new towels, but some guests think that is silly and insist on using their towel again. So when we have a few guests, we squeeze a drying rack (one that we use for drying laundry) in the bathroom.
