When the screen on my old laptop died and I had to buy a new one, I went with a super-cheap single core Acer Aspire 5517, and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s an amazing computer for just $350, with a wide 15″ HD screen and fairly decent speed, especially since I don’t do a lot of heavy computing these days. The best part was my new toy came with a free upgrade to Windows7, and when my disk arrived yesterday, I couldn’t wait to install it. To be honest, I’m still figuring out the new taskbar, and I’m sure I haven’t even tapped into a fraction of its cool features yet, but so far I’m impressed!

As I head out this morning with my two “big” girls (5 and 3.5 years old) and the baby (2 months already!) to run a bunch of errands while my husband and 2-year-old put up the Christmas tree, I wanted to leave you with some great links from the week:

Hi. My name is Mandi and I’m an organizing junkie. I’m also a wife, and Momma to four little girls (5, 3.5, 2 and a new baby!). I've worked at home since our oldest was a baby, and like a lot of other moms, my life is a constant balancing act of caring for my family and my home, meeting my obligations and finding time for hobbies in there somewhere. Oh, yeah, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m somewhat of a kitchen dunce and I only like to pretend that I’m crafty. Read more here!

  1. I was able to get the Windows 7 from Houseparty and I love it! I have been working with it for about a month now and know that there is still so much to be discovered about it. One feature I really like with it is the drag and drop screens. If you need to toggle back and forth between 2 open windows, you can drag one to the left, the other to the right and they snap into place allowing you to work off of both at the same time. VERY COOL!

  3. I’m looking forward to checking out Windows 7 myself. I’m thinking of buying a new computer pretty soon, but I want to be sure my software apps are compatible before I make the leap.

Thanks so much for mentioning my campaign for Make-A-Wish!

  6. Just wanted to let you know that you just might have a dual core processor in that new notebook of yours. My wife readsthis blog and she alerted me to your post concerning the Acer 5517. I also own the same model and mine came with a dual-core AMD Athlon 64-bit processor. That explains why it seems so “snappy” compared to your old machine. Like you, I am well pleased with my unit as well as with Windows 7. That was one difference that I noted. When I bought my Acer Aspire 12 days ago it came with Windows 7 already installed.

  7. Hey Mandi, thanks for the mention. I’m looking forward to Windows 7. I’ve enjoyed using XP but Vista is a joke – just like in the Windows/Mac commercials!
